As the second priority work of the Culture Ankara Publishing Centre, Mary Wollstonecraft’s novel “Maria: or The Wrongs of Woman” was distinguished from an international database from which we receive publishing advice, among many valuable and great works of literary art, which might be in the public domain anymore. When the English author passed away due to complications in 1797, at the age of thirty-eight, just after the birth of their daughters, she left behind drafts of this last book, along with many published works advocating women’s rights. After their unexpected separation, her husband, William Godwin, took on the editorship of book drafts featuring the character Maria, the namesake of their daughter, and published the literary legacy of his beloved wife in 1798.

:when Mary Wollstonecraft was evaluated as an author, a fact was observed: the three main characters in the novel had three different levels of mastery and use of the English language. Of course, each stage was parallel with today’s spoken language. However, I meticulously restored the insufficiency throughout the book.

:maria Venables-Darnford, the protagonist of the novel narrative, is the main character associated with the ability to construct the most advanced reasoning propositions in the English language, but she is unaware of her abilities.

:jemima, the chief warden in charge of the prisoners whose mental health is suspected in a prison whose name is not very important, is the second main character who auto-didactically acquires social and cultural knowledge of English while under the stigma of slavery.

:henry Darnford had been designed as the third main character who can use American English, which developed before the American War of Independence and immediately turned into a genetic heritage to the level of making the most advanced political and economic inferences.

:the native language intuitions of other characters in the novel are not denied, coming to the general method and flow. They imply perfect harmony and gauges in thought that could create some foreshadowing of the continuation of the novel.

:mary Wollstonecraft defined both a wife and a mother as the victims of the worst crime that only such a person could experience and has brought the incident to the head of a brilliant woman; and, by putting forward the character of Maria Venables-Darnford, she has stood for women’s rights, especially for women. She was trying to produce a cult victory on legal grounds in a general way, and the hierarchy of this work of art, mentioned in the previous paragraph and presented in the author's literature, supports the main idea of the whole text. At the same time, she waits for the cutthroat sentencing award and defence of a woman who has an advanced level of the British language and reasoning, both as a double-tasking person against law and society. Of course, the process is not fuelled by the hostility toward masculine authority that a feminist might defend intensely. On the contrary, it suggests that the correct and natural behaviour of women is not respected among male authorities, namely by the men who most frequently resort to moral rules and embrace them more.

The wrongs of woman, like the wrongs of the oppressed part of mankind, may be deemed necessary by their oppressors: but surely there are a few, who will dare to advance before the improvement of the age, and grant that my sketches are not the abortion of a distempered fancy, or the strong delineations of a wounded heart.
In writing this novel, I have rather endeavoured to portray passions than manners.
In many instances I could have made the incidents more dramatic, would I have sacrificed my main object, the desire of exhibiting the misery and oppression, peculiar to women, that arise out of the partial laws and customs of society.
In the invention of the story, this view restrained my fancy; and the history ought rather to be considered, as of woman, than of an individual.
The sentiments I have embodied.
In many works of this species, the hero is allowed to be mortal, and to become wise and virtuous as well as happy, by a train of events and circumstances. The heroines, on the contrary, are to be born immaculate, and to act like goddesses of wisdom, just come forth highly finished Minervas from the head of Jove.
For my part, I cannot suppose any situation more distressing, than for a woman of sensibility, with an improving mind, to be bound to such a man as I have described for life; obliged to renounce all the humanizing affections, and to avoid cultivating her taste, lest her perception of grace and refinement of sentiment, should sharpen to agony the pangs of disappointment. Love, in which the imagination mingles its bewitching colouring, must be fostered by delicacy. I should despise, or rather call her an ordinary woman, who could endure such a husband as I have sketched.
These appear to me (matrimonial despotism of heart and conduct) to be the peculiar Wrongs of Woman because they degrade the mind. What are termed great misfortunes, may more forcibly impress the mind of common readers; they have more of what may justly be termed stage-effect; but it is the delineation of finer sensations, which, in my opinion, constitutes the merit of our best novels. This is what I have in view; and to show the wrongs of different classes of women, equally oppressive, though, from the difference of education, necessarily various.

Ankara Kültür Yayınları’nın ikinci öncelikli yayımı olarak Mary Wollstonecraft’ın “Maria: Yoksa Kadının Hataları mı?” isimli romanı, yayın tavsiyesi aldığımız uluslararası veri tabanlarından (yığınlarından), pek çok değerli ve harika edebi sanat eserinin nezdinde ayırt edilmiştir. İngiliz yazar, otuz sekiz yaşındayken, kızlarının doğumunun hemen ertesinde, bir komplikasyon nedeniyle yaşama gözlerini yumduğunda, arkasında kadın haklarının savunuculuğu üstlenen pek çok yayımlanmış eser ile bu son kitabını taslaklar halinde bırakmıştı. Beklenmedik ayrılıklarının hemen ardından eşi William Godwin, kızlarıyla adaş olan Maria karakterinin yer aldığı kitap taslaklarının editörlüğünü üstlenmiş ve çok sevdiği karısının edebi mirasını, notlarıyla birlikte yayımlamıştır. Bu noktada, yüksek seviyeli bir yaratıcılık vardı. Ayrıca kitapta, yaratıcılığın yüksekliğinden kaynaklanan eksiklikler bulunmaktaydı. Mary Wollstonecraft’ın romanı değerlendirmeye alındığında, eserdeki üç ana karakterin İngilizce dilinde üç farklı seviyede ustalığa ve dil kullanımına sahip oldukları gözlemlendi. Ve her bir aşama, anadilimiz olan Türkçe ile paralel olarak uyumluydu. Ancak, roman genelindeki eksiklikler titizlikle giderilmiştir.
Roman anlatısının baş kahramanı Maria Venables-Darnford, İngilizce dilinde en ileri akıl yürütme cümlelerini kurma ve uyum sağlama yeteneğiyle ilişkili olan ve yetenekleri bir ölçüde baskılanmış ana karakter;
İsmi çok önemli olmayan bir hapishanede akıl sağlıklarından şüphe edilen mahkumlardan sorumlu baş gardiyan Jemima, kölelik damgası altındayken, oto-didaktik olarak sosyal ve kültürel İngilizce bilgisini kazanan ikinci ana karakter;
Henry Darnford, Amerikan Bağımsızlık Savaşından önce gelişim gösteren ve hemen genetik bir mirasa dönüşen Amerikan İngilizcesini, en ileri derecede siyasi ve iktisadi çıkarımlar yapacak seviyede kullanabilen üçüncü ana karakter olarak tasarlanmışlardır.
Romandaki diğer karakterlerin anadil sezgileri ise genel yöntem ve akış söz konusu olduğunda yadsınmamaktadır; mükemmel bir uyumu ve hikâyenin devamı üzerine bazı ön tahminleri meydana getirebilecek düşünce boşluklarını ima etmektedirler. Her birini ve romanın tümünü anadilimiz Türkçe ile uyumlu hale getirdim.
Mary Wollstonecraft: hem bir eşi hem de bir anneyi, ancak öyle birinin yaşayabileceği en kötü suç olayının mağduru olarak tanımlamış olup olayı, çok zeki ve özgüvensiz bir kadının başına getirmiş ve Maria Venables-Darnford karakterini öne sürmekle, başta kadınlar için olmak üzere kadın hakları adına hukuk zemininde kült galibiyeti üretmeye çabalamıştır. Bu sanat eserinin bir önceki paragrafta belirtilen ve yazarın edebiyatında sunulan hiyerarşisi, bütün metnin ana fikrini desteklemekte; aynı zamanda konuşma dilinde ve akıl yürütmede doğuştan usta olan bir kadının iki görevli olarak yaşadığı esaret beklentisini ve savunmasını, onu, hukuk ve toplum karşısına çıkararak gözler önüne sermektedir.
